Zetterberg, Franzen are Detroit's Priority

Once training camp gets underway, the Red Wings plan on kick-starting negotiations with Henrik Zetterberg and Johan Franzen.

Wings GM Ken Holland told Detroit sports radio station WDFN that he doesn't anticipate any problems once contract discussions get underway.

Zetterberg and Franzen can become unrestricted free agent next summer.

"My negotiation style is, I like to usually get it started near training camp," Holland said.

"I want to talk to the agent, I like to sit down and make sure that the player hears from me, my reasons for what we're offering, because, usually what we're offering is a little bit below what they can get in the open market, but I also think that goes on around the league as well."

Holland is hoping his players will take a hometown discount to remain with the Red Wings.

"Not every player can get his market value from the home team, and every player has to make decisions, so I don't anticipate any problems."

Sources have told TFP that the Red Wings have already initiated talks with Zetterberg's representatives, but that's merely a formality.

"Certainly Zetterberg's priority No.1, and Franzen's gonna be priority No.2 heading into this upcoming season," Holland said.

Zetterberg will make $2.9 million next season, and could triple his salary, while Franzen is set to make $1.15 million in 2008-09 and could do the same.

2008 Cup Items on Display at Hockey's Hall

TORONTO – The Hockey Hall of Fame announced that game-worn items from the 2008 Stanley Cup finals, including the cup-winning goal puck, Henrik Zetterberg’s gloves and Nicklas Lidstrom’s skates, are now on display.
“The Pittsburgh Penguins and Detroit Red Wings put on an incredible show in the Stanley Cup finals, so we are especially proud to give visitors to the Hockey Hall of Fame a chance to relive the series through these new acquisitions,” said Phil Pritchard, the hall's curator. Game-worn items from the 2008 playoffs include the Cup-winning goal puck from Game 6 of the Stanley Cup finals scored by Red Wings’ Henrik Zetterberg and game-worn gloves worn by Conn Smythe (playoff MVP) winner Henrik Zetterberg.
