Zetterberg, Franzen are Detroit's Priority
TheFourthPeriod.com, July 25, 2008

Once training camp gets underway, the Red Wings plan on kick-starting negotiations with Henrik Zetterberg and Johan Franzen.

Wings GM Ken Holland told Detroit sports radio station WDFN that he doesn't anticipate any problems once contract discussions get underway.

Zetterberg and Franzen can become unrestricted free agent next summer.

"My negotiation style is, I like to usually get it started near training camp," Holland said.

"I want to talk to the agent, I like to sit down and make sure that the player hears from me, my reasons for what we're offering, because, usually what we're offering is a little bit below what they can get in the open market, but I also think that goes on around the league as well."

Holland is hoping his players will take a hometown discount to remain with the Red Wings.

"Not every player can get his market value from the home team, and every player has to make decisions, so I don't anticipate any problems."

Sources have told TFP that the Red Wings have already initiated talks with Zetterberg's representatives, but that's merely a formality.

"Certainly Zetterberg's priority No.1, and Franzen's gonna be priority No.2 heading into this upcoming season," Holland said.

Zetterberg will make $2.9 million next season, and could triple his salary, while Franzen is set to make $1.15 million in 2008-09 and could do the same.

VAN NUYS, CA – Easton Hockey, the manufacturer of the No. 1 stick in the NHL, has announced the launch of www.eastonhockey.com/hank, a micro-site completely dedicated to Red Wings left winger Henrik Zetterberg. The 2008 Conn Smyth Award winner, who took home this year’s Stanley Cup, catalogues his career past and present with video, career highlights and an inside look at his Easton gear.

“It’s obvious that Henrik Zetterberg has made a significant impact for his team and the Easton brand,” said Kyle Horn, director of marketing for Easton Hockey. “Of our list of 300-plus elite athletes who are reaching new levels with Easton gear, he’s probably one of our brightest stars leading into next season, especially considering his postseason success in 2008. This micro-site speaks to that while celebrating Zetterberg’s Conn Smythe award and a Stanley Cup trophy.”

Along with exclusive interviews and action footage of the Red Wings left winger, the site focuses on Zetterberg’s meteoric rise to the top of the hockey world, from the 210th pick of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft to a 2008 Playoff MVP and a new multi-year extension with Easton Hockey.

“It’s no secret that Easton makes the best sticks in the league.” Zetterberg said. “When you have the chance to partner with the leading hockey company, you take it. I couldn’t be happier with the extension.”

The site highlights the Easton gear that helped Zetterberg reach superstardom, while also providing fans the chance to win a signed Henrik Zetterberg authentic jersey via the “My Name is Hank” sweepstakes.
