Avalanche

Henrik Zetterberg
helped get the Detroit Red Wings off of a six game losing-streak
with two goals in a 4-0 win over the Colorado Avalanche tonight
in Denver. Hank came into the game
with zero goals, just three assists, and a -5 (plus/minus) in the
Wings last five games and was due for a dominant performance. He
delivered when the team needed it most.
Zetterberg got his
first goal of the game, his 34th of the year, with
Detroit on a 5-on-3 power-play at
7:42 into the 2nd period. Linemate Pavel Datsyuk zipped a
cross-crease pass to Z who was alone on the right side of the net.
Henrik one-timed Datsyuk’s pass into the back of the net behind
Avalanche goalie Jose Theodore’s outstretched glove. The goal made
it a 3-0 game. It was Zetterberg’s 12th power-play goal
of the season.
Just over two minutes
later, Hank joined Datsyuk and defenseman Derek Meech on a 3-on-1
breakaway. Datsyuk carried the puck down the left-wing with Meech
driving down the middle of the ice towards the net and tangling with
Av’s defender Jordan Leopold. Once again, Pavel sent a pass across
to Zetterberg as the net-minder came across his crease to his left.
But, as Theodore came to his glove-side post, Zetterberg held onto
the puck, maneuvered around Meech and Leopold and wristed a shot
into the open net behind the Av’s goalie. Datsyuk’s assist on the
goal was his
Henrik’s
35th goal of the season gives him 73 points in 55 games
this year, which ties him for fifth in the NHL with Jason Spezza of the
Ottawa Senators. Zetterberg is on pace for career-highs with 48
goals and 52 assists for 100 total points and a +35 this season.
Zetterberg has Fun at Draper, Hudler's
Expense

The Nicklas Lidstrom
growth poster that the first 5,000 fans 16-and-under will receive at
Friday's game vs. Columbus was put to good use in the
Wings' dressing room Thursday. It was taped to the wall, near the
entrance, with Kris Draper marked off at 5-foot-4 and Jiri Hudler at
5-3.
Players were quick to
point the finger at Henrik Zetterberg. Draper figures it's a
retaliation for all the birthday shaving cream pies in the face he
has delivered to teammates.
"When you go at guys,
chances are sometimes things are going to come back at you,'' Draper
said."Did he spell my name right? You never know with Z. "Am I at
least taller than Huds (who's listed at 5-9) or the same size? I was
actually going to measure myself against Nick, but now I don't have
to,'' the 5-10 Draper said. "The height thing, I knew I'd be on a
lot of guys' list for that. It's something I can't control, it is
what it is.''

The Detroit Red Wings
haven’t been very hot lately, losing their fourth straight game
tonight in Nashville, but star forward Henrik Zetterberg had been on
an eight game scoring streak that was halted in this evening’s 4-2 loss to the Predators, in which he was
a -3 (plus/minus) and also received an interference penalty. Prior
to tonight’s game, Henrik had six goals and six assists and was a
+11 in the past eight games.
Zetterberg looks to
start another scoring streak on Friday at the Joe Louis Arena
against the Columbus Blue Jackets, a team that Hank has only 6 goals
and 10 assists against in 23 career games.
Currently, Zetterberg
is sixth amongst league-leading scorers with
70 total points in 52 games (33 goals, 37 assists) and is a +26,
fourth in the NHL. He is on pace for career highs of 48 goals, 53
assists, 101 points, +38, and 42 penalty minutes in 72 games.
With his next point,
Henrik will break a three-way tie with teammate Kris Draper and former Red Wings sniper and
current television commentator Mickey Redmond for sole possession of with
311 career points.
